Vision and Hearing Assistance
We provide funding and help facilitate eye exams and glasses for kids and adults with financial need. In some cases we can help people who need certain eye surgeries. We also help people get hearing exams and hearing aids.
Who We Help
The Satellite Beach Lions Club offers assistance to any U.S. citizen or green Card holder who demonstrates financial need, has been a resident of Brevard County for at least 6 months, has not received services from the SBLC in past 12 months, and is willing to complete the necessary paperwork to verify eligibility. Priority is given to those who need assistance to work or go to school. We will assist as many people as we can as long as we have people to work the cases and funding available.
How We Help
After a client is verified to be eligible for our services, we refer the client to an authorized eye doctor to set up an appointment and receive a free exam. If glasses are needed, the glasses will be made at that facility at no cost to the client. The client can only select one of the frames offered. Clients cannot pay extra to upgrade. We offer single vision and bi-focal lenses only. Specialty glasses will be considered only when the optometrist finds it medically necessary.
How to Apply
SBLC Vision and Hearing assistance is a program of last resort. All clients must first try to obtain services through any of the following that apply:
- Personal Insurance
- Medicaid / Medicare
- Florida Division of Blind Service
- Florida Children Medical Services
- Vocational Rehabilitation
- Brevard Family and Children’s Services
Clients must have a letter showing that the specific agency will not service the client.
For surgical assistance, the client must provide a letter from a licensed eye doctor stating the condition of the eyes, which eye is affected, and that the procedure is necessary to preserve or improve the client’s sight in that eye.
To start the process of applying for assistance, clients must email us at VisionHearing@sblionsclub.org with details of their need and full contact information. Someone from the Lions Club will make contact within 5 business days to pre-qualify the client and to set up a time to meet in-person, usually at a public library nearby, to fully verify eligibility. Clients must be able to answer detailed questions about their personal income and expenses.
FAQ:
- The Satellite Beach Lions Club will not provide any type of transportation to or from the facility, nor will the club pay for dilation of the eyes, testing for glaucoma or any type of medication.
- A Lions Club member will make 3 attempts to contact the client. It is the responsibility of the client to respond to email or phone calls to complete the process.
